Honeywell HHT-081. One thing I learned about filters is that you definitely get what you pay for. When you drop big coin on a pricey, hospital quality filter you can expect perfection in performance and air quality. When you spend $75-$125 like I did on this air filter then you get what you pay for. This medium room purifier with "HEPA Type" filters is said to be about 95% effective at removing air born allergens. The two HEPA type filters are permanent along with the secondary outer carbon filter for bigger air particles. The ionizer is also fairly effective at changing the overall smell of the room. If you choose not to have the ion smell you can simply ignore the button that turns that feature on. I've owned this filter for about 3 months now and it will occasionally buzz a little at high speeds. However, with mine it is easily fixed by tapping the top or by adjusting the tightness of the back plate. Low and medium speeds are pretty quite though. It has great dimensions as well making it possible to easily fit in to any small room without making the place look cluttered. 

For the money I feel like I got everything I paid for. I gave 4 stars because of the occasional soft buzzing noise and the fact that the purifier is designed in such a way that it does not push as much air through as it could. Aside from those minor complaints, this filter is the way to go if you're looking for a cheap and effective solution to cleaner air.

Honeywell HFD-110. This is an excellent air purifier. It can also be used as a fan, which I use it to sleep at night. It is very quiet except on high setting. But what fan isn't noisy on the high setting? I cleaned the filter by running water through it under the sink. It had a collected a nice bit of dust that would have otherwise entered my lungs. Looks retro. Neat integration of filter. Cool blue night-light function, if you like cool blue night lights. Good price for HEPA quality air filtration.

At higher speeds it can make a little bit of wind and fan noise. Not for some people, but no worse (and certainly better than) some other filters I have owned. I crank it up at night to sleep. White noise is the best.

Update: I though I should add that it does not filter scents at all. So if you need something to take the smell out of the air, this product is not for you. Reviews.......

I have tried several different air purifiers. This is by far the best I have tried. It is much quieter than others, compact size, the filter is permanent, and it works great. We are getting another one for another room.Here's why I bought it. I wanted an air cleaner for a medium to small sized room where I keep my cat's litter box. Normally, it doesn't smell, but about the day it's time to change it, I can smell it. Now, I don't want to smell it ever, though I keep my kitty box schedule in tact. Anyway, this air cleaner is so quiet on Whisper Mode that I literally cannot hear it.It's a great item and i'm extremely happy with it.  REVIEWS.....

We moved into an apartment that had some lingering smells that were terrible. I tried everything - diffusers, wallflowers, sprays, etc. but nothing seemed to get rid of the smell. I finally broke down and purchased this! It is amazing and quiet. I recommend getting the tobacco filters - it gets rid of even more smells than the original filters. I just wish they made one that you didn't need to plug in. I want to put one in the closet but all of the Hamilton Beach Odor Eliminators need to be plugged in. Reviews.....

Honeywell HPA-150. This replaced the tower fan in my room. It is more powerful and outputs filtered air. My allergies have drastically decreased since putting this in my fairly unhygienic home (shared with college kids). It is fairly loud in its medium/large output settings, but I typically enjoy it for it helps me fall asleep being able to drown out other sounds of the house.
